LHCBA stays away from rally

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) rejected the protest call of the lawyers’ National Action Committee (NAC) and did not participate in the protest taken out of Aiwan-e-Adal. Unlike previous rallies, no LHCBA lawyer welcomed the rally at the LHC gate, where the protesting lawyers of the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) chanted slogans for half-an-hour. Lawyers at the LHC also partially boycotted court proceedings. LHCBA president Ahsan Bhoon told a general house meeting on Thursday that the LHCBA would not follow any NAC order because it did not take the lawyers into confidence before giving the September 6 strike-call. He said the LHCBA would continue its independent movement against President General Pervez Musharraf instead of following the NAC. He said the LHCBA would decide whether or not to follow Pakistan Bar Council when the PBC passed a decision. Later, a group of lawyers, led by HRCP chairwoman Asma Jahangir went to Aiwan-e-Adal to join the LBA procession. staff report
